Touching Up Your Hardwood Floors

Touching up your damaged hardwood floors is simple, but there are a few factors that will determine the steps needed to bring your flooring back to life.

Materials needed
  • Eraser and wood stain marker (Minwax recommended). When using a wood stain marker, have a rag on hand to wipe up excess stain.
Things to keep in mind
  • All of our prefinished products have a polyurethane aluminum oxide finish.
  • Do NOT use any of the following products as they will damage your floors:
    • paste wax
    • steel wool
    • nail polish remover
Remove scuff marks
  • On polyurethane-coated floors, you can remove scuff marks with a pencil eraser.
Conceal scratches
  • To conceal scratches, use a touch-up stain marker. It's ok if the colors are not a perfect match, because the wood inherently has a range of different colors. To match the color, you may need to apply several layers of stain.
