August 8, 2007 Mullican Flooring’s Prefinished Domestic Products are “Verified Sustainable” JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – Mullican Flooring is proud to announce its Prefinished Domestic Products are “Verified Sustainable”, in partnership with Appalachian Hardwood Manufacturers, Inc. Mullican Flooring’s prefinished domestic products will now carry the AHMI Verified Sustainable logo. Mullican has been a supporting member of AHMI and endorses the association’s new “Verified Sustainable” program. “This is a great day for our company and our industry. To have this verification by AHMI validates what we have known for the past 20 years. The Appalachian hardwood forest has now been verified to be sustainable by U.S. Forest Service data.” says Neil Poland, President of Mullican Flooring. “AHMI is doing great things for the Appalachian hardwood industry, and we are very proud to be a member.” AHMI has been notified by the U.S. Forest Service that the hardwood tree growth in the 344 counties in the Appalachian hardwood forest, as defined by AHMI, is occurring at a healthy rate of 2.29 trees for every tree that is harvested or dies of natural causes. This means the Appalachian hardwood forest now has 65.4 million acres of timberland, reflecting a significant increase in hardwood growth during the past 15 years. “The Appalachian hardwood forest is a resource that meets present needs without compromising those of future generations” says AHMI President Tom Inman.
